Facebook login and comments disappear
Last modified: 10-01-2023From 26 October 2021, logging in via Facebook and posting comments via Facebook will no longer be possible. This is because it led to error messages and interfered with important functionality. We see page sharing as the most important Facebook functionality for raising donations through Kentaa. We have ensured this sharing functionality.
What is the Facebook link?
Kentaa previously linked every Kentaa website to Facebook's login module. With this link, a visitor could use information from his or her Facebook account in the login flow and then also log in with this. The person's profile picture, e-mail address and name were automatically taken from the Facebook account.
Besides logging in, this link also facilitated the posting of comments on certain pages of the Kentaa platform. These comments were visible only to users logged in with Facebook and accepted cookies on the Kentaa website.
Sharing via the Facebook button on Kentaa sites was also enabled via this link.
Why do Facebook login and Facebook comments disappear?
Facebook imposes increasingly stringent requirements on these links and furthermore adjusts these requirements without notice. This has led to links being increasingly rejected by Facebook and functionality on the Kentaa platform sometimes suddenly no longer working.
Because Facebook does not communicate why a rejection is taking place, an unworkable situation has arisen. This unfortunately forced us to remove the link to Facebook's login module.
Sharing via Facebook remains possible!
We have changed how the Kentaa platform works so that page sharing via Facebook remains possible. The link preview on Facebook also remains as it was!
Moreover, Facebook Cookies are now no longer loaded in advance, but only when the Facebook share button is actually clicked.
What will change for users?
In the sign-up flow for action starters/participants, it is no longer possible to extract information from Facebook. From now on, new users always enter their data themselves and log in with their e-mail address.
Users who previously logged in via Facebook need to create a password. To do so, this message appears in the login screen:
"Logging in with Facebook is no longer possible. Request a new password
to log in with the e-mail address, which you use for your Facebook
account."
The ability to post comments on action, team and project pages, disappears.
What do you need to change yourself?
- This change results in fewer cookies being set by Kentaa. We therefore ask you to remove the following cookies related to Facebook from your Cookie page:
Please note: do you use Facebook pixels? If so, you are responsible for indicating the correct cookies.
- In addition, check the Privacy and Terms and Conditions pages for mentions of logging in via Facebook and remove them.
- For measuring sign-ups, are you using Facebook pixels that we added for you? If so, check that measurements are still coming through properly. If not, see what needs to be changed and report it to us.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact support or speak to us in the Kentaa Community.
